"Kari Moran did a wonderful interview with me. Many unique questions, and for a change, this interviewer had read my book, "The Cavendon Women". Her charming manner also added a lot to our conversation."

"Kari is a total pro. She put me at ease immediately and asked smart questions. She had clearly read my book with interest and care. Particularly with the dwindling print media devoted to books, the literary world is fortunate to have BookRadio."

Walt Whitman and

America's First Bohemians

Justin Martin

Walt Whitman, one of America's most influential poets, considered the 4 years he hung out at Pfaff's Saloon on New York's Broadway (1858-1862) some of the best years of his life. He wrote "Bohemia comes but once in one's life. Let's treasure even its memory." Whitman's fond memories were formed in concert with his friend and mentor, Editor Henry Clapp, Jr. It was Clapp who brought "la vie de Boehme" to America after encountering its huge influence in Paris. He's also credited with promoting Whitman's masterpiece, "Leaves of Grass". With Whitman's help, Clapp formed a coterie of Bohemian writers, artists, playwrights and actors who met nightly at Pfaff's. Among these irreverent, cynical and colorful "Rebel Souls" were Artemus Ward, the 1st Stand Up Comedian, notorious Actress Adah Menken a.k.a. the "Naked Lady" and psychedelic drug pioneer Fitz Hugh Ludlow.

A Novel

James Ellroy

james ellroy

Ellroy fans will no doubt revel in what the Author calls "a binge". "Perfidia" is his latest crime novel and at 720 pages, it's the first in a Second L.A. Quartet. (Ellroy's First L.A. Quartet included "L.A. Confidential" and "Black Dahlia", etc.) In "Perfidia", Ellroy tells the complicated story of racially tense Los Angeles during World War Two and the sometimes courageous, sometimes corrupted cops introduced in his previous works, including Captain William Parker and sociopathic Sergeant Dudley Smith. He also introduces a newcomer: brilliant LAPD Chemist Hideo Ashida who, on the eve of Pearl Harbor, is tasked with solving what could be the murders of 4 members of the Watanabe family. Was it homicide or suicide?
